Warehouse and industrial Wi-Fi coverage
Warehouse Wi-Fi fails for physical reasons — steel, height and stock that moves — so it has to be designed against the racking layout.
Racking is the problem, not distance
Metal racking, dense pallets and high ceilings absorb and reflect signal, and a bay that scanned fine when empty can go dead when it is full. Coverage has to be designed against the racking layout and re-checked when the layout changes, with access points mounted for the aisles rather than the open floor.
Scanners have to roam without dropping
Handheld scanners and forklift terminals move constantly between access points. If the hand-off is not tuned, a device drops a session mid-pick and the operator re-scans — small delays that multiply across a shift. Roaming is a design setting, not a hardware accident.
Docks, yard and office are three different jobs
- Dock doors and loading bays, where signal leaves the building
- Yard and outdoor storage, needing hardened outdoor access points
- Cold storage, which behaves like a metal box
- Office and dispatch, with normal business traffic and voice
- Cameras, which consume steady upload all day
Upload carries the cameras and the WMS
Warehouse management systems, EDI traffic, telematics and camera footage all push data outward, usually at the same time. Size the upload for that and keep operations traffic on its own segment so a guest or contractor device cannot interfere with picking.
